About Us
Surviving Our Losses (and Continuing Everyday), INC, also known as “S.O.L.A.C.E.,” originally began in 2010 as a small grief support group in Portsmouth, Ohio for people who had suffered the loss of a loved one to the disease of addiction. This passionate group of people often traveled together seeking ways to prevent others from enduring the same loss and pain that they had experienced. This resulted in chapters of “S.O.L.A.C.E.” support groups being created in other communities.
In 2011, “S.O.L.A.C.E.” gained recognition as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and began the process of becoming a state certified outpatient provider for substance use disorders. In 2015, the organization obtained certification by the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (OHMHAS) to operate as a Prevention Program and an Outpatient Alcohol and Other Drug Addiction Program.
To provide emphasis upon the mission of our agency, in 2017 we began doing business as ASCEND Counseling and Recovery Services. We are dedicated to helping individuals and families achieve personal change by providing evidence-based practices in the fields of Behavioral/Mental Health and Substance Use Disorder treatment services.
In 2019, ASCEND gained a three year accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF). Also in 2019, ASCEND became a National Health Services Corp (NHSC) and Health Resources & Services Administration (HRSA) approved site.
